MONO.LOGUES holds the group show “UNLOGICAL 07” with works of Jérémy Benkemoun,SATO KUMIKO and Yamaoka Toshiaki from 29 Sep. to 23 Oct. 2023.
The UNLOGICAL series, now in its seventh edition, focuses on three artists from different communities and backgrounds with no personal connection to each other.
Jeremy Benkemoun explores the relationship between creativity and society through his identity and sexuality. His photographs, paintings and video works based on them vividly reflect his inner life, which is a mixture of fragility, romance and intensity. He is also the editor of the magazine "IWAKAN" and is currently based in Japan where he works on a wide range of projects.
In order to push the boundaries of her own thinking and creation, SATO KUMIKO uses mainly her hands and other body parts during production, inviting surprise and change into her work. She skilfully accompanies her inner world with the physical world and sublimates the impulses of her mind directly into her work. It is like an expectation of the unknown or an implicit sympathy for the indescribable.
Yamaoka Toshiaki pursues a unique motif he calls 'GUTIC'. It is the totality of forms that suggest 'something'.Many of them are projected as drawings on paper or wooden panels using dry media such as pencil or dermatograph.GUTIC is something that doesn't seem to be concrete, and therefore confuses the viewer and invites a variety of speculations and images.
